Museum Installation Films

Museums have come a long way since being simply collections of old exhibits covered in dust, with a written explanation by the side. Museums exhibitions are becoming increasingly more dynamic and engaging. Incorporating professionally made film can help bring exhibitions to life, whether it is watching the video testimonials of war veterans, seeing reconstructions of life in Roman times, or the latest graphics and animation rebuilding lost cities.

Museum Films :: Royal Armouries.

A large part of Definition Media's history has been in making historical documentaries for the Discovery and History channels, covering subjects ranging from Hadrian’s Wall to Impressionist Art, and from the inventions of Leonardo Da Vinci to the rise and fall of the Third Reich. We have experienced working with museum curators and academics, military experts and teams of re-enactors.

Case Study

We were asked by the Royal Armouries to produce a 20 minute film to be shown in their museum galleries, called ‘How A Man Schall Be Armyd’ (see film above). The film to show how a knight would be armed in complete armour from four distinct time periods (11th century, 13th century, late 14th and late 15th century). The film to demonstrate both how armour developed throughout the Middle Ages, and how it works to protect the wearer.

Client Feedback

"Definition Media met with us to discuss the brief and find out exactly what we wanted to achieve with the film. Members of their team accompanied us on location visits to scout suitable filming sites, and to work out a scheme for shooting the footage. The finished result is even better than we had hoped for – a blend of film, narration, sound effects and music that work together really well, and is a testament to their skills. Throughout the process we found Definition Media thoroughly professional, and very easy to work with.” Stuart Ivinson - Royal Armouries Museum.
