How We Work

There are many factors and possibilities to consider when commissioning a film, and we appreciate that it might not be a regular undertaking. We work closely with all of our clients, seamlessly guiding them through the entire production process along the way.

STAGE 1: The Brief

It is vital to first establish a clear understanding of what you want the film to achieve and how you envisage it working. The Brief, therefore should address the following:

Who is the audience?

What is the core message you want to get across?

Where will the film be shown?

How long will the film be?

Do you want to use a presenter or actors?

Do you want a voice over?

What locations do you want to film in?

What is the time frame?

What is the budget?

STAGE 2: Treatment

Following the initial  meeting, we prepare a written treatment outlining how we would approach the project, agreeing what we would film and the timeframes involved. In more involved projects storyboards would be provided to help to further illustrate our proposals.

STAGE 3: Pre-production

An integral part of a project is the script. This should deliver the key messages accurately and appropriately whilst maintaining the viewers’ attention.

Some projects might require the use of an auto-cue, enabling the script to be read word for word. Other projects might benefit from a more informal natural delivery, or a Q&A format with an interviewer. In all cases the script, its outline or questions, will be prepared in advance.

This vital planning stage also includes the selection and briefing of presenters, actors, models, scouting and arranging locations, obtaining any permission to film, etc.

STAGE 4: Filming

Filming can take place wherever required: in a studio environment, your place of work, or we can locate and hire suitable locations.

Our mobile crew typically comprises a producer/director, a camera operator and a sound recordist. We have filmed across the UK and Europe at a variety of locations, from museums to motor racing circuits, and from muddy farms to stately homes.

Definition Media use the latest equipment to produce the highest quality films. As well as the camera, sound and lighting are all expertly utilised to create the most professional video possible.

We can also film in a chroma screen environment which allows us to digitally remove the background and replace it with alternative images – film footage, company logos, or 3D animation. etc.

STAGE 4: Post Production

The film truly comes together in Post Production. This is when the film is edited, music and graphics incorporated, colours graded and the full sound mix compiled.

The editing process can set the pace, tone and overall feel of the video. Using digital edit suites we will complete an initial edit, which will then be uploaded to a personal and secure area of this website for you to review. Based on your feedback the final cut will then be produced.

STAGE 6: Delivery

Once the film is completed we can deliver it to you in a variety of formats, including video formatted for web use, DVD and Blu-Ray.

Alternative formats can be produced at a later date should your requirements change or when new media formats are developed.

We also provide a DVD sleeve and packaging design service and can assist with duplication.
